Sunflowers for Sallie is honored and humbled to celebrate five years of planting the seeds of love to help families in need. As spring blossoms magnificently over our area, bringing lovely birds and gorgeous weather, we are happily thinking about and planning for our largest event yet. We strive to assemble and deliver four hundred and fifty (450) baskets of hope to needy families this Thanksgiving so that the sunflowers of love and hope stand tall and majestic in needy gardens, spreading joy and precious memories all around.
Deb Clark, who has devoted herself to feeding hungry families, found herself falling upon tough times last year due to job loss, taking in her young grandson to raise, and coping with a severely limited income. Kind people in her community told her of the work of Sunflowers for Sallie, and she was delighted and grateful for the Thanksgiving basket she received. “This is an amazing basket that will provide us with several meals. And it is certainly something we can use right now, as we are in the midst of some hard times.” Not only did this basket provide the fixings for a marvelous Thanksgiving repast, but it also allowed Ms. Clark to put several more meals on her family’s table. Just as vital for Deb and her husband, the basket made them feel cared for, gave them hope, and represents a gift of love they will always treasure. She has both spread and received the sunflowers of love, and she is an example of caring truly making a difference for both body and soul.
As we prepare for our fifth Baskets of Hope event, we hope that we may count on your support so that our work with people in need may continue as strongly as ever. Families such as the Clarks, those with several young children, the jobless, the ill, and the elderly who struggle to choose between paying their bills and purchasing food, regardless of background and circumstances, share the need to be cared for, a desire for hope and love and their lives, and a longing for a traditional turkey dinner to enjoy with dear friends and relatives. Our goal is to reach $75,000.00 this year so that 450 hungry families may gather around full and festive tables this holiday season with those they cherish.
