Baskets of Hope – November 2022

2022 proved to be quite an exciting year for us. Although we did not create the two hundred baskets we’d hoped to, we did assemble one hundred and fifty. Volunteers met at the Blind Industries building in Baltimore to pack food, decorate baskets, share stories and laughter, and deliver sunflowers of love to one hundred and fifty different families. The pure joy we saw on the faces of the recipients warmed our hearts and raised our spirits. As time passes, we are developing more and more meaningful relationships with grocery retailers, the Department of Aging, schools, churches, other organizations, donors, dear friends, and people whose gardens have become brighter, thanks to our benefactors’ boundless generosity. This year’s Baskets of Hope event was a huge success, and we will look forward to doing it again.

Sunflowers for Sallie is delighted to have been able to adopt families for Christmas. As the result of the staunch support of our donors and friends, we adopted five of them rather than the four we anticipated. We delivered presents, grocery-store gift cards, and groceries to homes, a shelter for those battling addictions, and a hotel room, and as a wonderful bonus, we donated leftover nonperishable foods to a local food bank. Such a show of compassion from so many great people left everybody: volunteers, children, and adults, with smiles on their faces. Out of respect for privacy, we cannot display any pictures of those we adopted for Christmas but are more than content with the memories of their happiness. We offer a thousand thanks to all who gave us their money, time, and good wishes.
